Just walk on by.

I was mindlessly going through old mail and I found a note I had written to myself a few months ago. As I read it, I could not believe how relevant it was at that exact moment in my life. This is why I love journaling, apart from being a great way to talk about your problems to yourself without annoying others, it’s also a great way to put thing into perspective. I love looking back at my thoughts from weeks, months and years ago. Sometimes I look at what I had written and I think: ‘gee whiz Nk, you used to be so wise’ and other times I look back and think: ‘ Thank God, I'm not that person anymore’. Either way, I always take something from my reflections.

I can’t remember the contextof this old note but this what I wrote to myself:

How we made life difficult for ourselves:

We started holding grudges, playing mind games, and subtly deceiving others and ourselves to get ahead.  And when it didn't work out, we lived above our means, used lies to cover up lies, and ate and drank some more just to make ourselves feel better again.

You are part of the drama circle. – How would your life be different if you walked away from drama, gossip and verbal defamation?  Let today be the day you speak only about the good you know of other people and encourage others to do the same.  Those that refuse to support you CAN be ignored by you.  It’s as simple as that.  Incredible things happen when you distance yourself from negativity and those who create it.  Don’t get caught up in drama.  Just walk on by.

Be honest, helpful and undeniably good at what you do.

I hope you enjoyed that piece of wisdom as much as I did and I hope you can apply it to your life in some way. Cheers for now.
