An artist a day: Stompie Selibe

To showcase and pay homage to insane talent, I've decided to do an art series. Every day for the next 10 days, I will be sharing 2 of my favorite art works by a specific artist accompanied by a short artist bio. The intention is not to review these works but rather to experience them. I hope these pieces will move you, challenge you, rebuke you and soothe you as they have done to me.

Day 4: “My art is an act of the soul, not the intellect”. This is how musical genius and abstract visual artist Stompie Selibe describes his work. Selibe was born in South africa’s Soweto. Music is an integral theme in his work, I could see this clearly in his latest work; “broken chords’. His work, is absolutely captivating but I also love reading about what it means to him and what it seeks to do in the world. Not surprising for a jazz musician, but he is deeply poetic. This is him:

“The fusion of the old and the new to recreate unique sounds and the visuals that have the power of healing has enabled me to reach a point of discovering the unknown truth of finding solace and connection in the two mediums utilised to reach my target audience.”
